Guidance is the fundamental information service offered to students during their scholastic career. We treat it as an integral part of the philosophy and a working methodology of our school.

It helps students understand precisely what university or non-university studies they should choose. Moreover, it makes them aware of the importance of their decision that is going to determine their future employment.

The guidance service helps the students choose the most suitable curriculum that will develop their abilities and ambitions.

The service has double scope-

  • To contribute to the society’s progress.

2)To enforce to the student’s personal development.

Guidance is also defined as the act of guiding or showing the way. The act of setting and holding   a course. Something that provides direction or advice as to a decision or course of action.

The term guidance has been defined by several psychologist –

Jones says-

“Guidance involves personal help given by someone it is designed to assist the person in deciding where he wants to go, what he wants to door how he can best accomplish his possession , it assists him in solving problems that arise in his life. it does not solve problems for the individual but helps him to solve them. The focus of guidance is the individual, not the problem its purpose is to promote the growth of thw individual in self direction.”

Guidance is a general term which means helping people to make wise choices and solve their educational, vocational, and personal problems. It is a process by which the individuals are assisted in making adequate adjustments to lifes situations.

It ia an organised service which aims at helping the individual understand themselves which means enabling them to know their abilities , aptitude , interest, preceptions needs, purposes, their assets and limitations .

Counselling is a process of delimiting the assistance provided to an individual for developing the existing possibilities to the highest level. Testing and interview are the integral part of counselling process.

In the process of counselling an individual is studied carefully with the help of various methods. The focal point of counselling is a specific persona and to know about the obstacles occurring in the way of his development and eliminations of these problems.

The provision of professional assistances and guidance is resolving persona or psychological problems.

The term “counseling” has many confusing meanings and there are many wide applications to it as well. To go by the dictionary meaning, the term counseling means “the provision of professional assistance and guidance in resolving personal or psychological problems.” Many of us might have found ourselves in the role of a counselor at times and also many of us might have used counseling and guidance of others in our life. But the actual meaning of counseling, the role of a counselor and its importance are quite unclear concepts to many of us.

The experienced people can advice us but there is a possibility that they might not have been in the same situation as the one you are facing and thus their experiences and results might not be helpful to you. Here, the counselor plays an important role as he/she analyses your problem and look over the situation with a fresh perspective (unlike comparing it to their own experiences) and give the subject as many solutions as possible.

Also, a counselor is not attached to his/her subject and thus his advice and counseling is not biased or judgmental. He/she observes and listens patiently to the subject’s situation and work in a direction to bring their subject out of the depression or problematic phase of life. Students who face lack of concentration and confidence, mentally affected by family or academic stress or bullying of some kind must see a counselor who can shape their potential minds in a better way so that they does not grow up as shy and afraid people.

The main reason why counselling is important in the work place might be considered a selfish one. Employers are interested in the productivity and performance of their staff. They are in business to produce: they have tight deadlines to be met and few staff members with which to meet them. If employees are unhappy, anxious, or stressed they will not be able to perform well on their jobs. Their productivity and performance will go down. In addition, their interpersonal relations both at home and on the job may suffer more even when they ordinarily do not have interpersonal relations’ issues. This creates stress and again impacts on their performer.

Counselling is very important in childrens educational life.

To provide orientation to educational, vocational or avocational opportunities and requirements- counselling seek selection of appropriate courses in line with individuals need, interests, abilities and circumstances by making choice of various types of experience .

Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation is an process of assessment. Mandated by the Right to Education Act of India. This approach to assessment has been introduced by the state government of India, As well as by the ‘Central Board of Secondary Education’in India for students of sixth to tenth grade and  12th   in some school. The ‘Karnataka Government’ has introduced the CCE for grades 1st to 9th . The main aim of CCE is to evaluate every aspects of the child during their presence at the school. This is believe to reduce the pressure on the child during /before examinations the students will have to sit for multiple test throughout the year,of which no test or the syllabus covered will be repeated the end of the year whatsoever. The CCE method is claimed to bring enormous changes from the traditional chalk and talk method of teaching, provided it is implemented accurately.

As a part of this new system, student’s marks will be replaced by grades which will be evaluated though a series of curricualr and extra-curricular evaluation along with academics. The aim is to decrease the workload on the studentsby means of continuous evaluation by taking number of small tests throughout the year in the place of single test at the end of the academic program.Only Grades are awaded to the students based on work experience, skills, dexterity, innovation, steadiness, team work, public speaking, behaviour etc to evaluate and present an overall measure of the student’s ability. This help the students who are not good in academics to show their talent in others fields such as arts, hummanities sports, music, athletics, and also help to motivate the students who have a thirst of knowledge.

Over the years it is opinion of every educationist, teacher and general public that board or annual school examiNation based on tests in two or three hours duration provide limited information on various elements of curriculum and range of lerning in any subjects.

In view of the short commings in the existing system of evaluation it is desirable that evaluation of students should be not only continuous but comrehensive also.

CCE advocates a school based continous and comprehensive evaluation system sin order to-

  • reduce stress on children.
  • make evaluation comrehensive and evaluation.
  • provide space for the teachers for creative writing.
  • provide tool for diagnosis and for producing learner with greater skills.

cce scheme is visualised to be simple, flexible and implemented in any type of school i.e,from the elite one to school located in rular or tribal areas.Keeping in view that the board principles of the scheme, each school should evolvea simple scheme involving its teachers and owned by the teachers.

”It refers to a system of school based evalaution of students that covers all aspects of students personality”.

CONTINUOUS – It means that evaluation is identified aspects of students growth and development in a continuous process rather than on an event.

COMPREHENSIVE – It means that scheme attemptsto cover both the scholastic and co- scholsatic aspects of students growth and development.

EVALUATION – It is a sysytematic process of collecting, analysing and reporting information about students, knowledge, skills, intentions etc.

CCE is not help in checking all the standards of performance in both scholastic and co-scholastic areas, but also in decision-making regarding various aspects of taeching learning process ,promoting the students ,increasing quality ,efficiency and accountability.

  1. It will be reduce stress and anxiety relating to examination among the youth students, especially among the adolscents.
  2. It also need to reduce dropout cases.
  3. It also helpful to organize effective teaching stategies .
  4. It also need to diagnose the weakness and strength of the students.
  5. Enhancing learning time of the students.
  6. It also need to preapre students for life making, them physically fit, mentally alert and emotionally balanced.
  7. It also need to promote learning in a friendly environment.
  8. It also need to develop the child critical and scientific thinking.
  9. To make evaluation an integral part of teaching-learning process.
  10. To make the process of teaching and learning a learner-centred activity.

  1. It provide information/reports on the progress of the students in scholastic and non scholastic area .
  2. Encourages the learning of students by including new teaching techniques and methods.
  3. Explore the learning needs as well as potential of the students.
  4. Encourages students to participate on the extra-curricular activites instead of focussing largely on academics.
  5. Encourages additional life skills, emotional skills and thinking abilities.
  6. It also develop the overall personality of the students.
  7. Generating interest in the students.
  8. Identifying learning process of students at regualr time intervals on smaller portions of content.
  9. Encouraging learning through employment of a variety of teaching aids and techniques.

A lot of people, including teachers and students believe that CCE pattern introduced by CBSE has alot of disadvantages instead of positive points . These are as follows-

  1. The biggest diadvantage of the CBSE ‘s ,CCE programme is the grading system that it uses. Students scoring 90% marks and 99% marks respectively will still both attain an”A” Grade, so it could be describe as unfair for the students scoring the higher marks.
  2. Grouping together of a large number of students is another disadvantages.
  3. Alot of people argue that CCE makes the students take their boards lightly.
  4. Students are focused to study all round the year, which in a way like giving no rest to them. Each and every activity is monitored constantly.
  5. The external exam papers are evaluated by school teachers, which means that there is a huge possibilty of favouritism.
  6. Endless projects and students dependency on the internet is happening their creativity in away, with no outside knowledge.
  7. The students have a casual approach towards re-evaluation as this option is readily available for the same.

Despite the system aiming reducing stress, the grading system may in fact cause more stress for the students. For eg. a students may feel more pressure to get a higher grade because the grade margins is substantially larger than you would expect. The CCE system introduced in government school under the Right To Education Act sometimes become a pain in the neck of the teachers and even for the students. Under the system,it becomes mandatory for the teachers to review every students on a weekly basis and then on a monthly basis. But the students especially in the rular areas do not come to school for days together. Then in such a situation ,how can we assess the students till class 8th in any cases, children do not have the knowledge as per the classes they are studying for the progress of such students . The CCE seems fails to serve its purpose.

The purpose of education should not just to assess the level of growth ,but more to improve it. So,the necessary feedback is required to reinforce the educational process.CCE gives more accurate and immediately feedback to the teachers and the students about the effectiveness of the teaching -learning process .It is students needs to live a good life with the zeal and sympathetical planning a teachers.Only then we can expect good quality outcomes as per the expectations of the country to education. The students have to be treated like children and it is very important to understand that every child has its own capacity and capability .Undue pressure and unneccesary stress or constant evaluation is still predominant factor of India’s education and for bringing out the shy students out of their shell, there has to be a lot more improvement in all the studying pattern in the country.

High school guidance counsellors also help students prepare for continuing education or careers. Guidance counsellors work in both public and private elementary, middle and secondary schools. Some states also require guidance counsellors to have a teaching certificate and teaching experience to work in a school.

As the first day to school approaches, many thoughts start to revolve around a child’s mind. All of us have experienced this feeling filled with emotions. Many of us cried, many screamed , some scared and some must have even got faint. These all are symptoms of hesitation and fear for school. A child becomes anxious and unhappy about the whole thing of schooling and staying departed from their parent for more than 6 hours. For a 5 year old child , this scene becomes hard and horrible. It is very difficult for a small kid who was at home for over 5 – 6 years under his/her parents shelter, experiencing extream pampering and affections, and suddenly is dropped out in a new and unknown place called school.

Parents and the home environment plays a vital role in making the child comfortable with the concept of school. To overcome the fear of going to school the child is send to pre-schools and play schools where the kid enjoys and interact with different kids of same age in a complete informal way. This small school acts as a second home to the children and make them comfortable with strangers and new faces. This also helps the children to adjust into new circumstances without their parents.

Some main signs the children shows when first goes to school are-

  • Complaints about feeling sick or achy.
  • Difficulty in sleeping or nightmares or excessive sleeping.
  • Reverting to younger behaviour, such as baby talk.
  • Aggression towards other kids or unusual temper .
  • Hesitation to talk about school or back to school preparation
  • Sadness and crying without a reason.

First day of school is not very pleasant to many kids. school is entirely different from play or pre-school. Children face formal welcome in school which they have not experienced yet. Here are some simple tips or methods which can help the children in tackling the first day fear of school .

  • Unidentified fear are the most difficult to overcome. The more clearly your child can identify his fear the better you will be able to help him deal with it.
  •  Set a time table on daily basis : Being disorganised or late are two major stressors for       kids.
  • Role play a school day: Pretend that you are your child’s teacher . Act a part of the school day like recess or assembly . Add fun to the activity. This will make the child relaxed and open with school and school environment.
  • Nervousness: remind him/her that it is normal to be nervous by assuring that all other kids are facing the same problem.
  • Visit the school before the first week: This can help the child and parents to understand the school environment. The child may also get familiar with the atmosphere of school.
  • Encouragement by parents: Remind the child of all the challenges that he/she has already overcome that once made her nervous and sad. Refer the problems that she won and conquered.
  • Communication: It is very important to have a good communication skill. This will help the child in interacting with others and behaving in good manner.
  • Think positive and do positive : This feeling of positivity should be promoted by the parent a lot to their kids. This will add confidence and mental strength in a child’s mind.

Make new friends: School means friends , friendship is the essential part of ones life .Friends company can help to overcome the fear and hesitation that a child faces.

Thus the fear or hesitation that the child faces can be helped out easilly. With all the new people, places, situations and schedules your child will face during back to school week, it’s likely he’ll be anxious about something. By helping him address his fears to make the unfamiliar, familiar, you’ll enable him to overcome his anxiety and begin a successful and enjoyable new year.
